BBC iPlayer with ZoogVPN: the whole test in one take
BBC iPlayer is the harder of the two big streaming tests. It geo-fences on IP, it re-checks during playback, and it is aggressive about flagged addresses. This is the one recording on the site where the failure state, the connection and the success state all happen inside a single unedited take — which is the difference between evidence and a screenshot of a good moment.
The full test, unedited
The recording opens on iPlayer refusing to serve from the tester's real location. ZoogVPN then connects to a United Kingdom server, the page is retried, and iPlayer opens. Playback starts, and seeking through the programme works without a long stall — worth noting, because a marginal unblock often survives pressing play and then falls over the first time you scrub the timeline.
And it kept playing
Cut from the same session: Celebrity MasterChef, 26:58 of 57:55 elapsed. Getting iPlayer to load is the easy half. Still streaming twenty-seven minutes later, on the same connection, is the half that tells you the address was not flagged mid-session.
Why this one matters more than a table
Every VPN comparison site has a row that says "BBC iPlayer: ✓". Almost none of them show the moment the block turns into playback. We are not claiming ZoogVPN unblocks iPlayer better than services that cost four times as much — we are claiming that on 21 September 2026, on a UK server, we watched it happen and kept the tape.
What this does not prove
- One server, one day. iPlayer rotates its blocklists; a working UK exit in September is not a guarantee for any other month.
- Desktop browser only. The iPlayer mobile apps and TV apps were not tested.
- No account-level testing. We did not test whether a UK TV Licence prompt or an account region mismatch changes the outcome.
